“The work of visual artist and industrial designer Dora Moreno Zúñiga (Cartagena, 1999) is a kaleidoscopic look of personal experiences in her hometown. It is through the legacy of the festive colour of the Caribbean that feeds the tradition of popular culture, where the artist braids emotional and experiential moments of Cartagena. In that relationship it combines the nuances of light and form that she discovers in nature, the sea that is an inescapable presence, but also the exuberance of the colour that is in the flora and fauna, in the natural and cultural landscape, in the masks of African rituality, in the masks of the carnivals and the Independence Festivities of Cartagena, in the prints of the costumes of the dancers, in the indigenous and African blankets, in the hand-carved works and in the primitive, Haitian and shocking Afro-Caribbean roots paintings. Immersed in art from an early age, Dora grew up surrounded by the rhythm, colour, and folklore of Cartagena, a formative environment that nurtured her creative instinct. A pivotal moment in her artistic trajectory came during her work with the Museum of San Pedro Claver, where she conducted research on the museum’s Haitian painting collection. This experience awakened a profound engagement with her ancestral heritage and continues to guide her exploration of identity, memory, and cultural continuity.
Shaped by her journeys across South America, the Middle East, and Australia, She creates compositions that evoke a sense of celebration, daily rituals, and abundance. Her visual language draws from the festive colours of the Caribbean, the ancestral resonance of African rituality, and the expressive spontaneity of popular culture. Through an intuitive blend of abstraction and figuration, Dora transforms personal recollections into visual narratives that feel both intimate and universal. Dora works across painting, digital illustration, and the design of accessories. She has presented her fashion and textile collections at multiple editions of the UNIBAC Festival of Arts; and exhibited internationally, including at Mercuria Gallery, Museo San Pedro Claver, Museo Histórico de Cartagena, and Museo de Arte Contemporaneous en Bucaramanga in Colombia; Ladder Art Gallery in Melbourne; MUY OLA in Sydney; Melbourne Polytechnic in both Australia and Vietnam. Her works form part of private collections across the United States, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Colombia, and Australia.

“La obra de la artista visual y diseñadora industrial Dora Moreno Zúñiga (Cartagena, 1999) es una mirada caleidoscópica de experiencias personales en su ciudad natal. Es a través del legado del color festivo del Caribe que se alimenta la tradición de la cultura popular, donde la artista entrelaza momentos emocionales y vivenciales de Cartagena. En esa relación combina los matices de la luz y la forma que descubre en la naturaleza, en el mar que es una presencia ineludible, pero también en la exuberancia del color presente en la flora y la fauna, en el paisaje natural y cultural, en las máscaras de la ritualidad africana, en las máscaras de los carnavales y de las Fiestas de Independencia de Cartagena, en los estampados de los trajes de los danzantes, en las mantas indígenas y africanas, en las piezas talladas a mano y en las pinturas primitivas, haitianas y conmovedoras de raíces afrocaribeñas. Desde muy temprana edad estuvo inmersa en el arte, creciendo en un entorno vibrante y festivo que constantemente alentaba la creatividad y la exploración. Este primer encuentro con la expresión artística la llevó eventualmente a estudiar diseño, donde se enfocó en el diseño de estampados textiles antes de orientar su camino hacia su proyecto de grado con el Museo de San Pedro Claver, un momento decisivo en su práctica. Encargada de investigar la colección de pinturas haitianas de la sala Afrocaribe para diseñar productos para la tienda del museo, descubrió la riqueza del arte haitiano y enalteció sus raíces afrocaribeñas a través de la pintura y el poder expresivo del color. Esta experiencia continúa alimentando su obra, que se nutre de la memoria, el simbolismo y la identidad para crear un lenguaje visual personal y en constante evolución.
Actualmente viaja y crea entre Sudamérica, Medio Oriente y Australia, inspirándose en la diversidad de paisajes, tradiciones y culturas que encuentra en su camino. Su práctica permanece profundamente conectada a la memoria, el simbolismo y las formas en que las experiencias personales y colectivas configuran la identidad. A través del uso vibrante del color, la abstracción y los elementos figurativos, su obra explora temas de transformación y pertenencia, construyendo narrativas visuales que son tanto íntimas como universales.
