“The work of visual artist and industrial designer Dora Moreno Zúñiga (Cartagena, 1999) is a kaleidoscopic look of personal experiences in her hometown. It is through the legacy of the festive colour of the Caribbean that feeds the tradition of popular culture, where the artist braids emotional and experiential moments of Cartagena. In that relationship it combines the nuances of light and form that she discovers in nature, the sea that is an inescapable presence, but also the exuberance of the colour that is in the flora and fauna, in the natural and cultural landscape, in the masks of African rituality, in the masks of the carnivals and the Independence Festivities of Cartagena, in the prints of the costumes of the dancers, in the indigenous and African blankets, in the hand-carved works and in the primitive, Haitian and shocking Afro-Caribbean roots paintings. Immersed in art from an early age, Dora grew up surrounded by the rhythm, colour, and folklore of Cartagena, a formative environment that nurtured her creative instinct. A pivotal moment in her artistic trajectory came during her work with the Museum of San Pedro Claver, where she conducted research on the museum’s Haitian painting collection. This experience awakened a profound engagement with her ancestral heritage and continues to guide her exploration of identity, memory, and cultural continuity.
Shaped by her journeys across South America, the Middle East, and Australia, she creates compositions that evoke a sense of celebration, daily rituals, and abundance. Her visual language draws from the festive colours of the Caribbean, the ancestral resonance of African rituality, and the expressive spontaneity of popular culture. Through an intuitive blend of abstraction and figuration, Dora transforms personal recollections into visual narratives that feel both intimate and universal.
Dora works across painting, digital illustration, and the design of accessories. She has presented her fashion and textile collections at multiple editions of the UNIBAC Festival of the Arts; and exhibited internationally, including at Mercuria Gallery, Museo San Pedro Claver, Museo Histórico de Cartagena, and Museo de Arte Moderno de Bucaramanga in Colombia; Ladder Art Gallery in Melbourne; Muy Ola in Sydney; and Melbourne Polytechnic in both Australia and Vietnam. Her works form part of private collections across the United States, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Colombia, and Australia.

Inmersa en el arte desde una edad temprana, Dora creció rodeada del ritmo, el color y el folclore de Cartagena, un entorno formativo que alimentó su instinto creativo. Un momento crucial en su trayectoria artística llegó durante su trabajo con el Museo de San Pedro Claver, donde realizó investigaciones sobre la colección de pinturas haitianas del museo. Esta experiencia despertó un profundo compromiso con su herencia ancestral y continúa guiando su exploración de la identidad, la memoria y la continuidad cultural.
Moldeada por sus viajes entre Sudamérica, Oriente Medio y Australia, crea composiciones que evocan una sensación de celebración, rituales diarios y abundancia. Su lenguaje visual se basa en los colores festivos del Caribe, la resonancia ancestral de la ritualidad africana y la espontaneidad expresiva de la cultura popular. A través de una mezcla intuitiva de abstracción y figuración, Dora transforma los recuerdos personales en narrativas visuales que se sienten tanto íntimas como universales.
Dora trabaja en pintura, ilustración digital y diseño de accesorios. Ha presentado sus colecciones de moda y textil en múltiples ediciones del Festival de las Artes UNIBAC; y exhibió internacionalmente, incluyendo en la Galería Mercuria, el Museo San Pedro Claver, el Museo Histórico de Cartagena y el Museo de Arte Moderno de Bucaramanga en Colombia; Ladder Art Gallery en Melbourne; Muy Ola en Sydney; y Melbourne Polytechnic tanto en Australia como en Vietnam. Sus obras forman parte de colecciones privadas en los Estados Unidos, México, Alemania, Suiza, Colombia y Australia.
